Frontiers in Solidification and Processing Science

At a glance

Crystal growth continues to be a phenomenon of great interest to scientists and engineers, involving a complex interplay of many physical effects. Various interfacial morphologies with pronounced orientational order have been observed, e.g., dendritic and faceted, depending on the physical properties of the material.  The application space of the as-grown crystals covers electromagnetic metamaterials to aerospace and automotive components.  The inherent complexity of such crystals, including their morphological evolution, remain unexplained by existing models. Thus, there is ample potential to better understand their growth dynamics using state-of the-art characterization methods.  We are interested in a range of problems, including growth from parent liquid and solid phases.
